NFL icon Peyton Manning arrives at Schwab Field to support Tennessee at CWS

A Pro Football Hall of Famer made his way to Omaha Friday night to see his alma mater play its opening game of the College World Series.

Former Volunteers quarterback Peyton Manning attended Schwab Field to watch the Volunteers take on Florida State.

The trip marked Manning’s third time in Omaha. His son, Marshall, has a youth baseball tournament that always coincides with the College World Series, so he’s been able to attend the tournament.

Manning’s past with the CWS goes all the way back to his father, Archie, who played in the CWS when he went to college at Ole Miss.

He added how it’s been fun to have Tennessee in the field each of his three times in the city. His favorite thing about the tournament being played in Omaha is the atmosphere.

“It just lives up to the hype,” he said. “Hospitality by the people of Omaha, and obviously special to see your alma mater play here.”

He added that the Vols baseball team has had a tough road to Omaha but did a great job of getting through the Super Regional.

“They’ve had a target on their backs all year,” Manning said. “They’ve answered the bell all year.”
